Team Description

We are Team Starcraft e.V.,the Formula Student Team from Ilmenau University of Technology.
We participated for the first time in Hockenheim in 2010 where we finished the competition with the Best New Comer Award - Worldwide.

In 2012 we decided to change our overall concept to FSE.
2017 was the first year in which we also worked on a driverless car. Currently our team consists of about 30 active team members.
2020 we build our second car that can be used in electrical and driverless category.

Info
Founded in 2006 at TU Ilmenau in the Thuringian Forest, Team Starcraft is the only team in Thuringia and has been building fully electric race cars for over 10 years for Formula Student. Being a small team from a small technical university, we rely on creativity and enjoy strong camaraderie. This season marks our comeback after challenges like the pandemic and declining student numbers. We're excited to compete again and look forward to the 2024 events with renewed enthusiasm and determination.

Info
Team Starcraft is the Formula Student Team of the TU Ilmenau and combines a wide variety of courses. In racing, progress and efficiency play a major role. Therefore, we have been building purely electric race cars since 2011. The main design goal for this year’s car was to re-engineer the packaging of our electric components for better maintenance of important parts. A revised monocoque and aerodynamic parts improve both, the stiffness of the overall car as well as the air flow around it.
Engineering Design Priorities:
3-damper concept self-developed inverters easy servicing e-package flawless DV-integration production-ready design stiffer/lighter monocoque

After last year’s fire that destroyed our dreams for FSG 2017, we started project phoenix, put all energy into renovating our workshop and regaining the lost equipment. Thanks to the support from our sponsors and fellow FS teams we were able to recover from the severe setback and embraced the opportunity to start all over again with a completely new concept. Now we are back on track with all-wheel drive, aerodynamics, 3-damper concept and a lot of motivation, ready to surpass the expectations.

Team StarCraft e.V. proudly presents our second fully electrically driven Formula Student car - the TSC-02e. About 60 engineering, social studies and economics students of Ilmenau University of Technology build our multidisciplinary team. After gaining a lot of experience due to and through our first electrical car, this year we want to solve the challenge to be on the top of the international ranking of the Formula Student. Using innovative technologies in manufacturing the CFRP monocoque, working with extraordinary materials for our body work and the usage of a well-adapted and improved accumulator box, created by our own, enable a significant reduction of weight. With our self-developed direct drive and special bearings we achieve an exceptional efficiency factor. The modular setting of our car allows us an easy maintenance. Our fresh ideas and smart solutions build an excellent platform for a successful future.

Team StarCraft e.V. proudly presents our first fully electrically driven formula student car - the TSC-E. About 40 engineering and economics students of Ilmenau University of Technology form our multidisciplinary team. After participating in FSG 2010 with our first combustion car and winning the “Best Newcomer worldwide”, we are now meeting new challenges with a new car concept. Besides implementing an electrical drivetrain we realized a light-weight concept. The CFRP monocoque and a tubular steel rear frame offer high weight reduction, provide driver safety and facilitate easy maintenance. Our tractive system consists of two electric motors - actuating the rear wheels individually. Direct drive, high torque motors provide high efficiency and low failure probability. Along with the lithium polymer accumulators they are also main features of the light-weight concept. The required electrical safety is assured by redundant systems. All in all TSC-E is a safe and reliable vehicle.
