Team Description

Lions Racing is the Formula Student team of the technical university in Braunschweig, Germany. Founded in 2000 the team is now working on its 25th vehicle.

From the beginning onwards lightweighted construction was one of the main objectives and since 2016 this is achieved by designing and manufacturing our own cfrp monocoques in house.

To be able to work in leading fields of innovation the team created its first electric race car in 2012 and remained in that class ever since. Going forward from 2019 driverless systems became part of our vehicles as well.

Since 2000, we have been building racing cars as part of Formula Student. We have always strived for engineering excellence while prioritizing enjoyment. Our car features rear-wheel-drive hub motors. At the heart of our LR25 are its 600V battery, boasting a 6.9 kWh capacity, and our self-developed inverter. The monocoque, a carbon-aluminum sandwich construction, weighs only 24.5 kg. Our aerodynamic package, also constructed from carbon, generates 850 Newtons of downforce at 60 km/h.
Engineering Design Priorities:

Some people say the Lions Racing Team is building the same car every year. Not this year, the LR16 is a new concept. We accepted to go the big challenge "first monocoque" together with an entirely new powertrain based on the AMK formula student package. We have been working closer with VW than ever. Our goal is to come back to Hockenheim with a competitive concept to attack Top 10 and a good base to develop on.

The Lions Racing Team was founded in 2000. Since 2002 the team participated in many events. This season 40 team members worked hard to build the LR13, which is the 11th car of the team and the second one with an electric drive train. As a consequence of the new design and its dense package, the tubular space frame is 4kg lighter. The electric motor with a maximum torque of 220Nm is powered by a 5.5kWh accumulator, which is controlled by a self-developed battery management system. For an ideal dynamic performance, the suspension geometry was determined by tire testing and extensive simulations. Furthermore, we want to thank our sponsors who supported us over the last years!
