Team Description

Founded in 2003, UPM Racing is the oldest team in Spain. From 2003 up until 2017 we designed, built and competed with over 13 different combustion prototypes (and a few EVs) before switching to manufacturing EVs full time.

Our first car, the UPM001 (UPM 01C) made it's debut in FS UK 2004.
In FSG we've participated from 2010 onwards, until 2016.

2017 was the last time we participated with a CV, in FS UK.

Now focused in developing a different kind of powertrain, we look back with pride to our origins in this incredible competition.

Info
UPM Racing celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2013 by participating in FS Germany with two cars: one with a combustion engine and another with electric drivetrain. Each of our teams is composed of 20 automotive-passionated students who work part-time in the project, combining it with their degrees. The team members belong to the Technical University of Madrid, so the project lays on varied skills and knowledge. With a fairly tight budget, UPM Racing tries to introduce improvements in their new cars each year. In the UPM10 we have changed the ECU for a new one (Bosch Sport MS3 ECU) and with the help of a sponsor we recalibrated the engine. We remain at your disposition during the competition for any additional information. Finally, we would like to be grateful with all our sponsors, without them this project wouldn’t be possible. We hope to see you all in Hockenheim!

Since 2003 UPM Racing Team, led by INSIA (Instituto Universitario de Investigación del Automóvil) and UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), has been participating in FSAE competitions, becoming the most experienced team in Spain. FSG’12 will be our 3rd participation at the Formula Student Germany Event. This year our 30 team members developed our 9th single seater: the UPM09, which is based on the experience gained with past cars. It is built around a tubular steel space frame, a four-cylinder engine and 13" wheels. We have focused our efforts on reliability to obtain a car that can go through all the dynamic tests achieving good times.

Info
The Technical University of Madrid (UPM) is the oldest and largest Spanish technical university, with a long tradition in the world of engineering from the 18th century. The UPM Racing team was born 8 years ago as a result of a joint effort between the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and the University Institute of Automobile Research (INSIA) to provide the best training to their students. This year, the team presents a car based on its predecessor, the UPM007. All efforts are directed to two goals: improving performance and reliability. Among these improvements stands a significant weight reduction through the use of new materials in the frame and the optimization of material in all components of the car. In addition to this, the incorporation of a new differential and a new electronic control unit are the other important news on the way to achieve our goals. Of course, none of this could be possible without our principal sponsors: ETSII, FFII, Bosch, Caja de Ingenieros and RS.

Info
The Universidad Politecnica de Madrid Racing Team is one more time fighting in the formula student competition , these year we have made an equilibrium between the things from the past year that we know that they work and new items in order to develop the car. One of the radical changes in this car is the new pneumatic shifting system with the gears on the steering wheel including the clutch. The new car also incorporates a traction control adjustable in various positions from the cockpit. In the suspension matters we achieved an anti-squad geometry and adjustable front RC . In order to reduce weight a lot of composite materials have been used like the new carbon fiber economical seat that gives more comfort to the driver. In the engine division we have design a new plenum and with many tests we´ve tried to smooth the torque-rpm curve . In the brakes aspect we have made a new fully student design up-rights in aluminum cast. Also we´ve include a Drexler and lightened.
