Team Description

The thought to found a "Formula Student"-Team in Coburg originated among a group of students in autumn 2006.

This project plan hit immediately on big interest with students of the most different subjects and the college of Coburg.

Some basic conditions of the realisation of the project had to be created and already it went off. The official starting signal was given at the foundation meeting on the 03.03.2007 at which already more than 30 students were put down as members.

Today the team passes Automotive Technology and Management, Business Administration, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering of more than 50 members from the courses of studies.

The organizational structure of the team is split in two areas: Technology and Economy.

Every single professional team is subordinated to one of these areas and stands in each case under the guidance of a team leader.

Only by the engaged and interested appearance of the members who meet weekly in their professional teams and management teams this project has become possible.

Info
The snow leopard ("Schneeleopard") is a species of large cat in the genus Panthera of the family Felidae. The species is native to the mountain ranges of Central and South Asia. After 16 years we built our anniversary car, the C-23 Schneeleopard. This year's biggest changes and features besides a new monocoque are a rear axle steering and a heave damper system. On this vehicle, we use jet ignition and an intake manifold length adjustment in our powertrain. We look forward to an exciting season!

The margay (Leopardus wiedii) is a small wild cat native to Central and South America. This incredible cat is able to jump up to 3.7 m horizontally. After 15 years of CAT-Racing we built our 14th car, the C-22 Margay. This season the car features Hoosier 16x7,5-10 LCO tires and a CFRP monocoque paired with a steeltube rearframe, powered by a 4-cylinder Yamaha R6 engine. On top of that our C-22 has a completely new aero package. We are looking forward to a successful season with our agile Margay.

The Manul is a small wild cat with a broad but fragmented distribution in the grasslands and montane steppes of Central Asia. The combination of its stocky posture and long, dense fur makes it appear stout and plush. It’s also the name of the 8th combustion car from the Coburger Automobile Team and successor of the C-14 Gepard. Together with his team and friends, the C-15 Manul participates at the Formula Student events in Germany, Austria and Spain. Beware of the cat!

CAT-Racing (CAT = Coburg Automobil Team) changes in this season the most parts of the design concept of the last year. The easy weight reduction is the main reason of the modifications of selected assemblies. For the current racecar named C-14 Gepard, the teams construct their first 10” suspension and hybrid-Monocoque. Reacting to the increased attention of an aerodynamic system and the faster track layouts, the first wings of the team were designed.

CAT-Racing enters FSG for the sixth season and all of the members are keen on performing on the international stage of formula student with the C-13 Luchs. Increasing performance season by season is not just a question of wise planning and designing but also of deep data analysis and not least a direct feedback from the car to the driver. Therefore understanding the car’s behavior and the influence of each single component on it as well as enhancing feedback for the driver and decreasing the strain driving leads to the modification of certain key features, advancing straight line and cornering performance. Therefore lowering the engine, shortening the wheelbase, revising intake and shifting system will enhance the physical capabilities to a new level. Redesigning steering kinematics and design in combination with stiffened up seat paddings and pedals as well as raised shift paddle feedback will keep the drivers concentration on the track using the car’s potential to at its best.

CAT-Racing, founded in 2007, is the Formula Student Team of the University of Applied Sciences Coburg. This year our 40 team members developed our fifth car, the C-12 Puma. The need for compact design leading to an even increasing complexity in system arrangement makes diligent planning and engineering inevitable. Therefore keeping up durability, maintainability as well as drivability with a short wheelbase results in enhanced a-arms bonding methods, a revised engine cooling system, simplified system boarders to shorten dismantling times. On track performance is increased due to adjustable anti roll bars and on overwrought intake manifold decreasing engine reaction time. CAT-Racing thanks all sponsors, friends and families who made this project possible.

Founded in 2007, CAT-Racing enters FSG Combustion for the fourth time in a row. Our 35 members are looking forward to compete with teams from all over the world and present the C-11 Jaguar to the well known international judges. The growing standards and knowledge in every new season leads to deeper scientific work and more complex mechanism. So we focused on designing a racecar which is tailored on a Formula Student racetrack. An adapted gearbox in combination with a fast pneumatic shifting will also increase performance on tight and curvy courses. To meet the small size requirements, we maximized packaging via back plate, which merges all components at the rear.CAT-Racing thanks all sponsors, friends and families who made this project possible. We hope to meet and even exceed everyone’s expectations. For more information, please visit our website. (www.cat-racing.net)

Info
CAT-Racing (UAS Coburg) just finished the second race car, the C09. After a successful first season 2008, we set ambitious goals for the new season:One of our main goals was the weight reduction. We achieved that by increased application of carbon fibre, aluminium and by FEM-calculated styling of the components. This results in a weight reduction of 100kg (34,5%).The engine will put its optimum torque on a broader speed range which is reached by changed engine management system and an optimised air intake system. CAT-Racing emphasizes a very high portion of in-house production. This implies e.g. milling, turning, welding, manufacturing of the complete electrical system, all programming work and the production of all carbon fibre parts. The events in 2009 are coming up very soon and we are looking forward to participate in Silverstone (GB), Melk (AT), and Varano de Melegari(IT). I hope I speak in the name of everybody when I say: “Let the race begin!”Martin Knobloch – CEO

CAT Racing was founded in spring 2007 by students of the University of applied Sciences Coburg and participates for the first time in 2008 in the Formula Student competition. Our Team comprises mainly of students from the Faculty of Engineering, but also from various other faculties within the University. Members of our team gain valuable experience and stay a member for life due to a lot of sweat and energy that have gone into that project. Thanks to the support of our partners and the help from friendly competitors we look forward to seeing you this August!C08 Panther is a predator in subtle elegance. Our main focus while designing the C08 Panther was on building a car which reaches the objectives to compete in higher classes. The body shell built with carbon fibre and the electromagnetically actuated gear shift make the C08 Panther a light and agile racecar. The concept of modular assembly allows fast and facile substitution of car components for repairing and maintanance.
