Team Description

The Ignition Racing Team of the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück has been established in May 2006. After our successful participation at Hockenheim in 2007, we got encouraged for our new car. The 'Red Diamond ´07' pointed out many opportunities for improvements.

For the current Formula Student season of 2010 the Ignition Racing Team designed the IR 10. Founded in 2006 the Team now starts with its new racing car into the fourth season. Thanks to the support of many new and experienced team members we were able to design and manufacture the new IR 10. 51 students majoring in different courses analyzed but also optimized and solved last years defects and problems. The result is a car that is not only faster and lighter but also satisfies with its easy maintenance. We optimized our self-constructed chassis from last year season considering its weight and shape. Due to a longer testing period we reached some of our main goals: Optimization concerning weight and reliability. We continuously work on the improvement of our results. Due to our increased efficiency rates we expect to improve our performance of last year. The team is looking forward to the upcoming racing season and strives for successful results in all kinds of disciplines.

Info
We, the Ignition Racing Team, are about 50 students of different fields of studies, for example engineering, electrical engineering or business administration. We are positioned in a classic project structure. It's our third year in the Formula student competition but the first time in Silverstone for us. Our aim for the 2009 car was to reduce weight and to improve the carbon fibre monocoque of our IR08 Black Onyx. We engineered a derivative gearing to solve the problem of mechanical transmission at the rear shaft. Changes in chassis and damper will help to enhance the perfomance of our 2009 race car. The overall design concept was "Evolution instead of Revolution".

The Ignition Racing Team at the UAS in Osnabrueck (IRT) was founded in June 2006 by 15 motor sport enthusiast students. Today the team comprises 64 students with degree courses in engineering and business sciences. This now is our second year in Formula Student and we again developed an exceptional vehicle. After our last years success with our first car, the IR07-Red Diamond, the Team spent a lot of work and enthusiasm to make the IR08-Black Onyx become real.Alongside much manual work the most modern technologies, such as vacuum assisted prcesses were used to buind the IR08-Black Onyx. To contract with our last years car, we again made the structure of the Body according to the name – Black Onyx. On the one hand ‘Onyx’ is a material which is used for jewlery and on the other, the black mineral ‘Onyx’ is used for composites. Exactly like the car – a jewel and also a Carbon/Aramid Sandwich. This year we are heading for a Top Ten position in the Formula Student Germany.
