Team Description

The very first ancestor of the race car was the Al'06. It competed at Hockenheim at its first event. Now, the Einstein Motorsport team returns with its car number thirteen, the Al'20. It will be the last Combustion Racecar for Einstein Motorsport. The name Einstein Motorsport was chosen because of Ulm's famous child, Albert Einstein. A goal for the team is and was to be innovative like Einstein was. Therefore every car has been an evolution step. By the aid of sponsors and the university it develops components which are fabricated in alternative production processes like precision casting, laser sintering of plastics and steel or lamination of carbon fiber. At the University of Applied Sciences nearly every faculty is involved, the main parts are undertaken by the faculties "mechanical and automotive engineering" and "electronic technology".

Info
Einstein Motorsport was founded in 2006. Actually there are about 50 active members in the team. The first car ever built by students from the University of Applied Sciences Ulm started at Hockenheim in 2006, since then we developed 11 Formula Student cars. Our newest prototype is the AL18. AL stands for Albert, in relation to Albert Einstein, who was born in Ulm. Starting with the Al’06 every car was a continuous development. Our AL18 is the most innovate and lightest car we ever built.

Now that we as Einstein Motorsport can look back on four years of experience and four cargenerations, we are already able to bring in distinct innovations, new design features and knowledge not exclusively based on theoretical studies but on on-the-job-training and fieldtesting. In our newest car Al09 almost everything was revised, restructured and reconstructed. With many students from our university we started research projects concerning framereconstruction, chassis and drive train as well as studies on improvement of the use of our Bosch ECU. Our tyres, the steering gear and wheel also bettered as a result of dedicated studies. Besides developing a safer car the main goals for us to accomplish are a lowering of the retailcost and a decrease in weight. In addition we lowered the gravity center, bettered the enginepower, relocated and improved the cars cooling system.
