Team Description

SDU-Vikings is a team of students pursuing degrees within engineering and other at the University of Southern Denmark. The Team began in 2006 with a combustion car and switched to electric in 2011. Every year the overall goal has been to improve past years performances.

The team would like to thank the University of Southern Denmark for its support as well as their advisors. Furthermore, they would like to express their gratitude to all of their sponsors, for all of the contributions they have made, have proved to be crucial for the project's success.

Info
The current car is the 6th generation racing car from SDU Vikings. It has been developed by a team of 21 mechanical students and 19 electronic students. The new features on this years car includes regenerative braking along with a sophisticated traction control system in order to "tame" the 750 Nm that the motor produces. One of the major changes compared to last years car, has been to switch from LiFePo4 batteries to Li-Po, which has a higher energy density. This along with the regenerative braking makes it possible to reduce the total weight of the car and make it more competitive. That is also why the main objective for the Viking VI is to end up in the top 10 of the electrical cars. We are convinced that this year's car is most competitive car so far, so we are very much looking forward to the competition.

Info
This year's car is the 5th generation of Viking cars. Up until now the team has been using combustion engines, but this year an electric car has been constructed. The new drivetrain meant that a lot of the practices and technologies used in earlier cars could not be used. That is why this years project called for a whole new level of innovation. SDU Vikings has always been very keen to develop its own solutions and avoid plug and play solutions. The name SDU Vikings was originally chosen, to tie the team together. There have always been a large number of exchange students on the team. The vikings was some of the few things the foreign students knew about Denmark, so to define the identity of the team, the name SDU Vikings was chosen as a tribute to our northern ancestors. This keept the spirit high and the team set out to conquer the world... of racing! The fact that the Viking looked like an old viking ship with its bodywork of wood, was actually just a funny coincidence.
