Team Description

LJMU Racing team represents Liverpool John Moores University in the Formula student competition. Competing each year at FSUK since 2008, the team have many accomplishments under the belt. In 2009 LJMU Racing Team took the design and overall win for the class 2 entry and following this have returned each year with a highly developed car. The class 1 entries have achieved 2nd best UK team dynamic and static event wins and placed a personal best of 12th at FSUK. This year is the team’s 3rd entry to FSG having competed in FS Spain on alternative years.
The LJMU Racing Team’s policy is to design, manufacture and test as much of the single seat car in house as possible. This allows for skill development and knowledge transfer which is believed to be the key in a successful formula student team.

Info
Since the start of the team’s class 1 career in 2010, the team has gone from strength to strength managing to achieve a 12th place finish in Formula Student UK 2012. Aiming to continue and sustain the trend of improving of competition results, LJMU13 features a number of improvements over its predecessors to provide weight and performance improvements. With a redesigned space-frame chassis retaining the handling performance of previous years, whilst reducing its weight, this has been paired with a modified and retuned Honda CBR600RR engine, with improved torque characteristics to allow the maximum performance of LJMU13 to be realised. True to one of the central principles behind the team, we aim to manufacture more of each yearly entry in-house as possible, introducing our own designed and manufactured light-weight hubs this year. Having last competed in Formula Student Germany in 2011, LJMU Racing is looking forward to returning and to improving on its past performance.

Info
In 2010 LJMU racing team entered FSUK Class One for the first time and achieved a very respectable 21st place. This achievement was an inspiration to the current 2011 team which has managed to maintain many core members from 2010 and has recruited several keen new members. The strategy of the team is to incrementally improve the overall team entry by setting long term projects such as composite chassis panels, active suspension and heat recovery systems. The 2011 design team have been briefed with a strict weight budget for all components. This has resulted in none of the manufactured parts of the 2010 car being used on LJMU’s 2011 entry. Comprehensive analysis has been undertaken to ensure a light yet reliable car. Quality and reliability is the forefront of the LJMU ethos and a full data acquisition package has been implemented and tested to ensure accurate data can be fed back and used in the design and analysis of all components.
