Team Description

Raceyard Kiel, the northernmost of the German Formula Student teams, started to participate in Formula Student events in 2006, when the team made an impressive debut at the Hockenheimring, winning the trophy for the best newcomer team and finishing 14th overall.

After winning the Acceleration in Hockenheim in 2007 and having respectable results in individual disciplines in the following years, such as winning a second Acceleration trophy in 2009, Raceyard decided to switch to electric race cars from 2012 onwards, becoming Raceyard E. Behind this step was the target of establishing themselves as a regular contender for Top 10 finishes in the overall standings.

Since then, due to constant improvement to the cars, the team has racked up several impressive results, such as the overall win and P1 in FS Spain in 2023 and P7 at the FS Alpe Adria in Croatia.

The team from the UAS Kiel consists of an average of 50 team members and built its foundations upon effective knowledge transfer between old and new team members. The name Raceyard stems from the team’s location just kilometers away from the well-known shipyards in Kiel.

"Raceyard is Germany’s northernmost Formula Student team. It was founded in 2005 at the UAS Kiel. Nowadays students from all three universities in Kiel join the team to build an electric race car from scratch. The variation of less and more experienced developers are the reason for an on-going innovation. The reorientation back in 2012 towards an electric drivetrain proves the ability of the team to adjust to the ravages of time. This year the team is celebrating its 10. anniversary.

Info
Raceyard is Germany´s northernmost Formula Student team. We are located in Kiel, the sailing city of Germany. We are organized in six departments: Suspension, Frame, Electric, Power Train, Accumulator and Non-Constructive. This year we paid special attention to the electrical part of our car. We designed our own BMS and developed a torque-vectoring-system. With the BMS we were able to save weight by customizing it to our individual requirements. To improve the handling we added to our adaptive slip control the newly developed torque-vectoring-system. A further innovation is our bodywork. It is based on polypropylene Twin-Wall Sheets which provides the benefits of weight (1 kg/sqm) and savings of time, money and weight.
