Team Description

Ecurie Aix, the Formula Student Team at RWTH Aachen University, has been founded in 1999 as one of the first teams in Germany.

The name "Ecurie Aix" is a reference to the team´s "international" home base in the German city of Aachen, which lies right at the border of Belgium and the Netherlands.
The word "Aix" is derived from Aachen´s French name: Aix-la-Chapelle.
The word "Ecurie" means "Racing Stable" or "Racing Team" in French and has been chosen in respect to a very successful Belgian motorsports team named "Ecurie Francorchamps".
Racing has a history in the region around Aachen - race tracks like the famous Nürburgring or Spa-Francorchamps are just a one-hour drive away.

Until last year our team has built 10 cars with internal combustion engines and 4 electric powered cars. After having the most successful season of our history in 2015, thanks to an vehicle with two electric motors in the rear, we decided to take the next step in terms of technology: the whole new CFRP chassis, 4WD, the new suspension and improved aerodynamics are expected to enable us to close the gap to the top teams. Therefore we are looking forward to having a great competition in 2016.

Founded in 2009 as a branch to one of the oldest teams in the history of Formula Student in Europe, Ecurie Aix electric is competing at FSE in 2011 after proudly presenting a functioning car in 2010. Once again the team has built two cars for both the electric and combustion competitions in 2011.The changes from the eace01 (Ecurie Aix Car Electric no.1) to the eace02 are mainly within the drivetrain. A lot more (intelligent) power and torque, as well as a innovative bevel gear transmission are the key features when comparing with the growing competition. Still, safety and maintainability are ensured by the use of the successfully proven hybrid design, where the car combines a carbon fibre monocoque with a tubular space frame.

Info
The Ecurie Aix Electric Team of the RWTH Aachen was founded in 2009. The team is fully integrated into the Ecurie Aix Association in order to minimize costs and to maximize time efficiency. Due to the synergy between the Ecurie Aix Electric and the already established Combustion Team, which is one of the oldest teams of the Formula Student in Europe, it was possible to design a new racecar with the same high standards regarding safety, enhanced drivability and performance. The eace01 (Ecurie Aix Car Electric 01) comprises a CFRP Monocoque in the front and a tubular steel frame in the rear as this hybrid structure benefits the maintenance and safety at the same time. The car is propelled by an AC induction motor that uses the energy provided by low-weight LiFePo4 batteries. This year, the students from Ecurie Aix will be rolling out with two competitive race cars due to their passion and commitment to motorsport to set high standards in both competitions.
