Team Description

This year, powered by our initiative, we organised “Formula Student Press Day” in the Magny-Cours Circuit with all the French teams, to expend the Formula Student Project. Furthermore, for years we want to organize a Formula Student France competition and your competition is a very good example to take.

Formula Student Project starts growing in France, there is now five French teams. We are the ISAT Formula Team based in Nevers, the most experimented French team because the Formula Student Project exists since 2003 in our school. At ISAT Formula team, communication is very important, especially into the team. Each year, the team gives advices to the newcomers and proposes the possible developments for next car. In few words, with good basis coming from previous years, we design a new car more powerful, more reliable and more ergonomic.
About our vehicle, in the Engine’s department we made new sump to reduce the center of gravity of the vehicle and to reduce weight.
We exploit many data during test session thanks to all our sensors. We use the MS6 sport Ecu, with DDU7 display. This configuration is permitted with the partnership with Texense and Bosch: we have tires temperature sensors, brake temperature sensors, Brake pressure sensor, Damper sensor, Gearcut sensor, Intake pressure sensor, Oil pressure and temperature sensor, suspension movement sensor, temperature exhaust system, … We use data to make a car with the best performances. With all these information, we can also develop an engine mapping to be more competitive on the dynamic events. This year, thanks to our electronic department, we have a new harness for our engine bench, much more precise than the old one.
Our suspension is developed each year in accordance with Optimum K software and the Optimum G seminary. Our suspension department will make titanium impression upright to gain weight and rigidity.
We are a very competitive team, we sign good performances each year at Formula Student UK and Germany.

The 2017 ISAT Formula Team with 29 fresh new members, all in first year of the engineering curriculum. We represent the only state-owned French engineering school specialized in automotive engineering. We take part in FSG, FSN, and FSCz after a year of hard work with our Internal Combustion Engine car. All the while, we are working on a FSE car, which would make us the first French team with two cars. We’re the 15th generation of our Team and we think we can be even better than our predecessor

The ISAT Formula Team was created 11 years ago by students at ISAT. This school is the only public school specialized in automotive and transports in France. The Formula Student project is part of our curriculum in third year. Our main objective is mass reduction and reliability. That is why we optimized our suspension geometry with 10 inch wheels and our electronic system with electronic gear system. Moreover we worked on fuel consumption thanks to the tests we held on our engine test bench.

The whole team is renewed each year and team members work on this project in parallel with attending mechanical engineering courses. The main purpose of this project is to enable students to discover how to design and build an entire car and how to work in an autonomous way. This year is very important for us because we change our data acquisition system for a bosch Motorsport via a DDU 7 display. We also tried to work hard on weight reduction. We thank all of our sponsors and will be doing our best to embrace the best results we can this summer.

The main purpose of this project is to enable students to discover how to design and build an entire car, and how to work in an autonomous way. This year, we decided to concentrate mostly on making a big step on weight reduction: chassis, uprights and many components were redesigned and the use of brand new wheels enabled a total saving of 20kg with lower unsprung masses. We also worked on comfort and ergonomics, in order to get the car easier to drive and to handle for the driver. Our self developed data acquisition system was of great use, helping us to know a lot of parameters, by adding new sensors, and using telemetry to see data in real time. The result of all these efforts is that TASIA10 is our most achieved car since we have been competing.

The Institute of Automotive and Transport Engineering (ISAT) in Nevers (France) is a state-run school committed to the comprehensive training of engineers, with a particular interest in the automotive sector. With the F1 circuit "Magny-Cours" nearby, ISAT students are able to experience first-hand leading automotive technology, that serves an educational purpose and also a recreational one. The Formula Student project was founded in 2003, and is composed by 15 students in mechanical engineering split up into five main areas: Frame, Vehicule dynamics, Engine, Electronics and Drivetrain. The Formula Student Challenge at ISAT University is taken up by the 3rd year engineering students and takes a big importance in their evaluation. This year, a big effort was done in suspension design based in several kinematics and simulation softwares. The setup was made with a new National Instruments data acquisition sytem with damper positions, tires temperature sensors and potentiometers.

The ISAT University, which is the only university specialised in automotive and transport in France, is located at few kilometers from the Nevers Magny-Cours Circuit. The 2008 team is composed by 15 students in mechanical engineering split up into six main disciplines: Structure, Vehicle dynamics, Engine, Drivetrain, Electronics and Marketing. The Formula Student Challenge at ISAT University is taken up by the 3rd year engineering students and has to be completed in one year. This is the fifth year in a row that ISAT takes part in the challenge. Thanks to the former teams’ feedback, we were able to establish our design and thoughts based on the errors made and results we have had in the past years. Thus, we hope, we managed to produce a single-seater car that will perform well in the different events during the competition at Hockenheim. Are basic strategy is one of steady evolution learning from our past mistakes and not revolution.
