Info
2012 sees UBRacing make their 15th entry into Formula Student. This year the team aims to improve on its overall result at FS compared to previous years. UBRacing are delighted to offer University of Birmingham students, from all years, the chance to take part in Formula Student and pride themselves in both the practical and professional development of team members. For 2012, the primary design objective was to design a car capable of being the most competitive UK entry and finishing top 10 overall at both Formula Student UK and Germany. For the first time, the team was able to make use of Tire Test Consortium data to drive specific suspension design decisions with the goal of getting the full performance potential from our chosen tyres. In conjunction with the support of the University of Birmingham and our sponsors, the team has been able to focus on the time management of the project and also preparation for the static events.

Info
2011 sees the 14th year of competition for UBRacing. This year sees the team aiming to improve its overall result at Formula Student Germany compared to the previous two competitions with the focus on development from UBR13 onto UBR14. Detailed development has continued on areas of the vehicle such as engine development, driver interaction and the optimisation of the vehicle's custom designed active differential which was introduced in 2010. UBRacing has received rewarding support from a vast array sponsors. Yamazaki Mazak UK have worked to strengthen the designs of the vehicle's uprights and differential. The team's approach to the static events and project management has been improved through the continuing relationship with Perkins Engines. McLaren Electronic Systems have kindly continued their support with the supply of its TAG400 ECU with continued work using Matlab and Simulink software. Aston Martin have assisted in the production of the vehicle’s bodywork.

Info
In 2010, UBRacing enters its 13th Car into the Formula Student competitions.UBRacing hope to improve on the results gained in last year’s competitions with a large continuation of team members and development in key areas of the vehicle, including Engine Electronics, Engine Gas Flow and the Drivetrain system.A continuation of sponsorship from McLaren Electronic Systems has allowed for the development of the TAG400 ECU using Matlab/Simulink, which has also been kindly sponsored by Mathworks. The ECU provides engine management as well as controlling the custom designed active differential and the pneumatic gear shift system. The differential, which has had several components manufactured with help from this year’s new sponsor Mazak, has allowed UBR13 to optimise traction in all dynamic conditions. With continued support from McLaren Racing, an improved intake design has increased volumetric efficiency and driveability, with increased mid-range torque. Info
2009 sees UBRacing compete in Germany for the 3rd time, with a team of 12 undergraduate students. We have joined forces with several new sponsors, including McLaren Electronic Systems, and strengthened our relationships with Perkins Engines and Dunlop Motorsport in our efforts to produce our most successful car yet.Our aim for 2009 is to finish as the top UK University. We have paid particular attention to improving our score in the design event, through development of our design processes and justification. Key progress has been made in vehicle dynamics, electronics and engine development. Our tyres have been developed in partnership with Dunlop Motorsport, representing a significant performance gain over last year. The use of a TAG-400 ECU has allowed us to consolidate our engine control and data logging into one compact, lightweight unit while rapid prototyping sponsorship has allowed us to develop the unique central air intake seen on the car.

Car #11
Info
UBR11 is the University of Birmingham Racing Team's 11th Formula SAE/Student car. This car is an evolution of our 2007 car which achieved a 6th place in the autocross event at Germany. The design of UBR11 is simple. It is a tubular steel spaceframe and diffbox incorporating an unstressed 600cc Yamaha R6 engine with custom designed sump. The team has worked to improve reliability, but also further the development on the car. This year we have been developing a Formula SAE/Student specific tyre through Dunlop Motorsport, using our new Race-Technology DL2 data logger. This allows us to log lateral and longitudinal G-forces, full engine information, GPS, steering angle and tyre temperature.Other new developments on the car include a new DTA S80 Pro ECU with full traction and launch control. A custom built LCD dashboard with engine diagnostic readouts. The length of the chassis has decreased thanks to a new highly compact pedal box design.
