FSE 2015 “Best Wheel Hub Drive Award” powered by Schaeffler

The wheel hub drive is one of the most promising technologies when it comes to “mobility for tomorrow”. The globally-active Schaeffler Group explores urban and suburban areas to develop new vehicle concepts using the E-Wheel Drive as a core element. Environmentally friendly drives are designed with a focus on optimally preparing for future mobility, whatever form this may take.

Direct drive technology is just one possible solution when considering new wheel hub drive concepts. In terms of innovative ideas for the power train and chassis, there are some brilliant solutions on display in Formula Student Germany.

To promote and honor the teams’ work and ideas in the field of wheel hub drives, Schaeffler will reward the best solution based on the following award criteria.

Design

• Packaging (particularly with regard to friction brakes)
• Degree of integration
• Sealing concept
• Safety concept

Performance

• Torque and power density
• Peak and continuous torque
• Torque at standstill
• Results of dynamic events

Controls

• Integration into vehicle dynamics control systems
• Cooperative braking
• Control dynamics and quality

Quality

• Robustness
• Ease of maintenance
• Build quality

 

How to participate?

No application is necessary. Based on the design reports all FSE Teams with wheel hub drive will be invited to present their concept within the FSG Forum on Friday, 31st July 2015. Each of the teams will get a 30 minutes time slot for a presentation and discussion with the judges.
