University of Stuttgart is the winner of the FSG 2009

Category: Competition

Stuttgart is the winner of the Formula Student Germany 2009. Second and third prize go to the universities of Hatfield and Western Australia. 77 teams and 1900 students from around the world participated in this year’s competition, an international design competition that has been hosted by the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI) for the 4th time. More than 5000 people followed the event on the Hockenheimring.

The team of Stuttgart offered the best package: in the final endurance, it was one of the top teams that crossed the finishing line and was also convincing with good lap time results. Delft, the winner of last year’s competition, did not finish due to technical problems. Stuttgart also won in the disciplines of “Autocross” and “Skid Pad”.

The University of Siegen, rank 44, was awarded the “Best New Comer” Award. Fuel Efficiency was also an issue in the competition: TU Delft was the winner of this category. This was remarkable this year because it allowed the teams to compete in this category without having finished the endurance successfully.

The “Sportsmanship Award” was given to the team of Saarbrücken. They provided the team of Montreal with money so that they would get out through customs and participate in the FSG-event.
