This August, the fifth edition of Formula Student Germany will be held, and it will be bigger than ever before. A total of 96 teams from 21 different countries will be competing against each other. For the first time worldwide,  not one, but two competitions will take place side-by-side. 78 teams will be participating in Formula Student Combustion (FSC). Additionally 18 teams will be participating in the all-new Formula Student Electric (FSE).Each team, both FSC and FSE have spent one year designing, building and testing their car – and in Hockenheim they will present their results to the judges and show off their technical solutions on the race track. What is there to see…

… in the pit lane? Assembling, grinding, oiling, adjusting, cleaning, polishing – watch the students hard at work. From finishing touches to small repairs right up to simply getting the car ready to race, you can learn much about teams and their cars by taking a look in the pit lane – experience first hand their dedication to present the fruit of one year’s hard work to judges as well as spectators

.… on the race track? The weekend of the 7th and 8th of August will see the race cars competing in four dynamic disciplines, Acceleration, Skidpad, Autocross and Endurance, each posing their own challenges on a car’s design. Take a seat at one of the grandstands and share the excitement.
 Saturday morning tyre grip, engine performance and cornering ability will be tested during the Acceleration and SkidPad events. In the afternoon the Autocross, a 1-kilometre lap with straights, corners and chicanes, event will be held.

This only leaves the main event the Endurance, a gruelling 22km test of stamina for both driver and vehicle. During the endurance race up to four cars are allowed on track simultaneously.
 Saturday night will see a premiere; the first ever Formula Student Electric will be driven after dark. Making it the first FSAE/Formula Student Race driven in artificial light.
Sunday is reserved for the Formula Student Combustion Endurance.
Friday you can see the cars in action on the testing circuit after passing the technical inspection.

… additionally? In the visitor’s area all aspects of Formula Student Germany will be presented on various banners and posters so you can get an impression of those parts of the event you cannot access directly.
Friday you can watch the technical and safety inspection, which every car needs to pass before being allowed on the testing circuit. The inspection comprises of a brake test, a noise measurement and a tilt test. In front of the endurance track there are special bays in which teams can start and test their engines. For Saturday ad Sunday the engine test bays will be moved to a location in front of the pit lane.

All weekend long, live coverage of the races will be shown on a video screen. Please do not forget to visit our showroom in the FSG Forum where our sponsors will be presenting their latest innovations, technologies and race cars.

Dates

The fifth Formula Student Germany takes place from the 4th until the 8th of August 2010 and is open for public from the 5th of August. We recommend to plan your visit during the weekend as all the race cars can then be seen in action. Taking a short stroll through the pit lane and having a look at the test areas is possible on all days. Please also pay regard to the schedule.

Location

Formula Student Germany is held at the paddock of the Hockenheimring. The entrance is near the Motodrom Hotel / Campsite C2 / Grandstand. Information on driving directions and parking can be found here. Please also pay regard to the site plan.

Tickets

Visitors can buy tickets at the entrance at the Ticket Centre. A day ticket costs 10 Euros, the four-day ticket (valid from Thursday to Sunday) can be purchased for 25 Euros.
