78 teams from 20 countries will be competing against each other at the fourth Formula Student Germany at the Hockenheimring. For one year they have discussed, designed, built, negotiated, documented and tested – and in Hockenheim they are presenting their results to the judges and showing their technical solutions on the race track. Visit Formula Student Germany and experience over 1,500 motivated and talented students from all over the world in a unique atmosphere of ambition, tension, tears and elation.
What is there to see
… in the pit lane? Assembling, grinding, oiling, adjusting, polishing – watch the students hard at work. From the finishing touches to small repairs right up to simply getting the car ready to race, you can learn much about the teams and their cars by taking a look at the pit lane – and about their dedication to present their hard work from the past year to judges as well as spectators.
… on the race track? On the weekend of the 8th and 9th of August the teams will be competing against each other in the dynamic disciplines in which the race cars have to prove their capabilities on four different track layouts. Take a seat in one of the grandstands and share the excitement. On Saturday morning the acceleration and suspension will be tested in the Acceleration and SkidPad events. In the afternoon the monoposti will take to the Autocross, a 1 kilometre lap with straights, corners and chicanes. On Sunday up to four cars are on track simultaneously during the main event, the Endurance, a gruelling 22km test of stamina for both driver and vehicle. On Friday you can only see the cars in action on the test circuit.
… additionally? In the visitor’s area we will be presenting all aspects of Formula Student Germany on various banners and posters so you can gain impressions of parts of the event you cannot witness directly. On Friday you can take watch the technical and safety inspection which every car has to pass before being allowed on the test circuit. These tests comprise a brake test, a noise measurement and a tilt test. In front of the pit-lane there a special bays in which the teams can start and test their engines. All weekend the racing will be shown on a video screen as a live coverage. When?
Formula Student Germany takes place from the 5th to the 9th of August 2009 and is open for the public from the 6th of August. We recommend the weekend for your visit as then all the race cars can be seen on the track. Short glances into the pit lane and test areas are possible on all days. Please also pay regard to the schedule.
Were?
Formula Student Germany is held at the paddock in Hockenheim. The entrance is near the Motodrom Hotel / Campsite C2 / Grandstand. Directions for traffic and parking can be found here. Please also pay regard to the site plan.
How can tickets be purchased?
Visitors can buy tickets at the entrance at the Ticket Centre. A day ticket costs 10 Euros, the four-day ticket (valid from Thursday to Sunday) can be purchased for 25 Euros.
